While many of our members speak German, using English as the main language ensures that everyone can participate—whether they are fluent in German or not. That said, at our events, you’ll hear a mix of German and English conversations, so feel free to speak whichever you prefer

Absolutely! Many people attend solo, especially for their first meetup and every single event always has first-timers. Our community is super friendly and welcoming, so you won’t feel left out. Every event has new faces, and we always make sure first-timers feel at home. Just come along, grab a drink, and introduce yourself—we’re happy to have you! Our tip! Try to be on time or slightly earlier as this makes breaking into conversations easier.

We highly encourage RSVPs! It helps us secure enough seats, manage reservations, and keep everything running smoothly. If you don’t RSVP, you can still come, but seating may be limited. If you RSVP and later can’t make it, please update your status so we can adjust accordingly.
When you RSVP, we know how many seats to reserve at the venue, ensuring that everyone who registers has a place to sit. If you show up without an RSVP, you might be taking a seat from someone who registered in advance.
If we know more people are coming, we can increase the reservation and secure extra seats. If fewer are coming, we can reduce the reservation, keeping the venue happy and maintaining good relationships.
If you RSVP but don’t show up or arrive very late, we might have unused seats, and venues don’t love that! This can make it harder for us to book larger spaces in the future.
Of course! Everyone is welcome, whether they speak German or not. Many of us Germans, have English speaking wifes, husbands and friends. Our events are about bringing people together—Germans, Austrians, Swiss, expats, and locals alike. Many of our members switch between German and English, so your friend will feel comfortable joining but we do expect them to understand that many prefer to stick to German.

Steins & Sunsets is a trading name of M45 Services Pty Ltd, ABN 44 603 317 933, an Australian private company—not a registered Not-for-Profit (NFP).
This structure was chosen to allow limiting liability to organiser, simplicity of administration, and the ability to sustain the community effectively.
Unfortunately, registering as a Not-for-Profit requires a level of compliance that our founder, Matthias Hollstein, does not have the time to commit to. It would require three separate directors, an elected committee, and additional administrative overhead.
Beyond the legal requirements, Matthias also firmly believes that committees are not an effective leadership model for advancing a cause or achieving goals. Decision-making within committees is often slow and inefficient, which can hinder the growth and development of a dynamic community like ours.
That said, while we operate as a private company, Steins & Sunsets is not profit-driven. The business structure allows us to raise funds more easily to cover expenses like event costs, website maintenance, and community resources. Currently, our operating costs are around $2,900 per year which covers website, SEO, marketing, bookkeeping, accounting and bank fees. Any other income above and beyond is reinvested back into the community to improve our events and offerings.
Our goal remains the same: to bring people together, celebrate German culture, and create a welcoming, engaging social experience for all members.
